What is the difference between an ectoparasite and endoparasite?  Give an example of each.

An ectoparasite is an external parasite and an endoparasite is an internal parasite.  A parasite is an organism that feeds on or off of another animal or organism.  The animal or organism a parasite lives on or uses are called the host.  An example of an endoparasite is a tapeworm that lives and feeds in an animals small intestines.  The tapeworm sits in the intestines and steals nutrients from its host.  An example of an ectoparasite is a tick or mosquito that feeds on the outside of an organism.  They feed on blood.

The difference between an ectoparasite and an ectoparasite is that an ectoparasite lives outside the body.  An example is a tick.  An endoparasite lives inside of your body.  An example is a tapeworm.

An ectoparasite is a parasite on the outside like a leach.  An endoparasite is a parasite on the inside like a tapeworm.
