FLAT BOTTOM BOWLS
(For larger view and description click on image)
flat bottom wood bowl Made from a large partially spalted Maple
log which I split in half. The wood has
beautiful graining and color and being
that I like a heavier feel to my work I
made the bowl a bit thicker and left a
little flat handle type feature or edge
on one side for artistic balance.
cherry wood bowl Made from a split cherry log and under cut
to make a cantilevered type over hanging
bowl. A large hole in the "foot" and a
smaller hole in the bowl add balance.
apple wood bowl My brother-in-law saved a small apple
root and stump from a tree removed due
to construction. I left the natural
markings and blemishes as well as one
root to make this bowl. I added tool
markings and scroll work. The wood
is a cream to brownish color and tight
grained.
