THREE LEGGED BOWLS
(For larger view and description click on image)
Oak is a very difficult wood to work.
It is hard, open pored, subject to
checking and cracking and has a
tendency to splinter along the grain.
Raw logs have to be worked quickly
to prevent checking.
One of the few laminated bowls I've made.
This one of Maple. I took small pieces of
kiln dried wood and glued them together,
carved and sanded smooth. I made a smaller
one to fit beneath the larger. Sometime
in the near future this is an idea I would
like to pursue further. The potential
for new and different shapes as well as
different wood combinations is staggering!
